Michael Myers killed his sister when he was just 6 years old, since then he was held in an insane asylum for 15 years until he escaped. After escaping he begins to stalk a girl and her friends before going on a killing spree. he is a man without remorse or regret, simply put he is pure evil.

Halloween is a great example of how to make a horror movie on a small budget, simple but well told story and a simple but very effective score.

The pacing of the film is perfect, the cast is good with good dialog. Unlike many other slasher films the killings are realistic and believable.

Halloween was the first of the modern day slasher type horror films, which had many sequels and remakes in 2007 and 2009, none of them matched up to the original.

Slasher films are not my favorite type of scary movie, normally I find them quite irritating because of all the stupid decisions the victims make which ruins my enjoyment. However the original Halloween is one of the few exceptions.

A student named Alex Wright is completely obsessed with the original Grave Encounters movie, and he is determined to prove to everybody that the psychiatric hospital that the first movie is based in, is in fact haunted for real. Alex and a group of this friends perform their research and then visit the hospital hoping to find some evidence of a real life haunting. What the group discovered was far worse than anything they could ever imagine.

I was pleasantly surprised by the first grave encounters, it provided some genuinely creepy and scary moments, despite the fact that in recent years we have been inundated with these types of first person perspective, reality type movies.

I liked the idea and approach of this movie with regards to the idea that the first grave encounters was only a movie within grave encounters 2 and that Alex the main character is performing research on the actors and director from the first movie looking for some evidence that the first movie was real and that it showed real footage of the haunted psychiatric hospital. This idea may not be completely original, however I did find it refreshing and different enough to keep me interested and immersed in the movie.

As the film progresses and we get into the psychiatric hospital the movie just goes downhill, the acting and dialog becomes very cheesy and it completely ruins any tension or potential scares. At times it felt like they were trying to make a comedy, a spoof of the original, other times it felt like it was trying to be a genuine horror movie, the whole movie became very confusing and a bit silly. Towards the end of the film I completely lost interest and I couldn't care less how it ended and to be honest I can't actually remember how things finished.

When I first heard about grave encounters 2 I was excited to watch it, I was hoping they would make it scarier than the first, the end result is a confused grave disappointment.

A bunch of ghost hunters have their own reality TV show, they're investigating an old hospital that is supposedly haunted. At first the ghost hunters are more interested in creating an entertaining TV show rather than seeking the truth, even bribing staff to say on camera they witnessed a ghostly experience.

The grave encounters team lock themselves in the hospital for the night, hoping to pick up some ghostly activity on camera but they get far more than they were expecting.

Think of Paranormal Activity but set in a large hospital, the film is partly shot using fixed cameras and the rest in the first person perspective. The first person perspective works better in this film than most, mainly because they have a good reason for holding the camera. Although as the film goes on and things get more serious and their lives become at risk, it becomes a bit silly that they're still filming which I feel destroys some of the tension, but this is a flaw all these types of movies have.

The story is simple to follow, the hospital is a great setting, very creepy and atmospheric. The acting and dialog is a little rough around the edges at times but good enough to keep the tension, a nice sense of panic sets in when the cast realise they can't get out of the hospital adding to the tension.

We have seen a few to many films like this now and I think they're starting to lose there appeal. However this film does offer a few new ideas and some genuine scares, grave encounters is one of the scariest movies I have ever seen. If you like paranormal activity you'll probably enjoy this.

Zombie films are a particular type of horror movie genre, an old favorite of mine is the original Dawn of the Dead, there have also been some great recent zombie movies. I am a big fan of the zombie style movie, they create a great sense of survival and isolation that is unmatched by any other type of movie. Zombie movies have a huge following and fan base, they offer a great form of escapism from our daily lives. Modern zombie movies started in the 60s with Night Of The Living dead and they have been very popular ever since, many recent good zombie films have followed the same style and continue to be popular to this day.

What Are Zombies?

They are the living dead, mindless creatures that resemble humans but they have no humanity left in them, their only desire is to eat the flesh of the living.

How To Kill A Zombie?

The brain has to be destroyed, (Gun Shot, Axe, anything that can cause serious brain injury) decapitation will disable the body, however the head will still be alive.

Werewolves are very popular in modern fiction with movies and books based on Werewolves being released all the time. They're a personal favorite of mine, there have been some really good werewolf movies plus TV series in recent years.

What is a Werewolf?
 
Werewolves are humans that have the ability to turn into a Wolf or a Wolf like creature or humanoid Wolf. A Werewolf can also be known as a Lycanthrope or just simply Lycan which is commonly used in the Underworld films. The werewolf myth is originally thought to have originated from Europe, In this modern day world they're well known world wide.

Werewolf Characteristics
 
A Werewolf's transformation can be triggered by a Full Moon or some Werewolves are portrayed with the ability to transform whenever they like, to turn at will. Depending on how they are portrayed in what ever fictional medium, their strengths vary, this normally includes enhanced physical strength and speed, these abilities are normally only apparent in Werewolf form, but sometimes these abilities can be apparent while they're in human form. Some werewolves are shown as immortal creatures that can only be killed by silver, others portray them as mortal creatures that age and die just like normal humans.

Good Vampire Movies

Vampire movies are a very popular type of movie and there have been many of them, some good ones and some not so good. Film companies have been making them for years and they're still going strong.

Vampires are generally represented in the same way, supernatural creatures that live on the blood of the living. Vampires are known to have a certain set of weaknesses like, sunlight, garlic, crosses, silver and wooden stakes to the heart. Other characteristics they have is no reflection, sleeping in coffins, the ability to fly and transform into a bat like creature.

Vampires are known to have a few special abilities, such as super strength and speed, immortal/Immunity to aging, quick healing and even limb regeneration, some are represented as having mental powers like the ability to influence minds as well as other things.

History Of The Vampire

Reports about blood sucking creatures have been around for hundreds and even thousands of years, it wasn't until the 1700s when they were labelled with the name Vampires and become popular in fiction and literature.

Two sisters Ginger and Brigitte are outcasts and struggle to get along with their fellow class mates, one night while they're walking in their local woods the two sisters get attacked, Ginger is bitten by some unknown creature. A few days after, Ginger starts to change physically and her personality begins to shift. Brigitte suspects the creature was a Werewolf and she comes to the conclusion that Ginger is turning into a Werewolf and starts to search for a cure.

I think we have been starved of good Werewolf movies and Ginger Snaps is one of those movies that eluded me for some years, so after doing some research on Werewolf movies I came across this, with good reviews I was very eager to get my hands on this and see what I have been missing out on.

Ginger Snaps is a refreshingly original take on Werewolf movies, it revolves around two teenage girls with low social value, struggling through life, and it deals with the confusion of puberty. The two girls are interesting characters and their lives and troubles are enough to hold the viewers attention, then add Werewolves into the mix and it makes for a very entertaining movie.

The acting is a little weak at times, but for the most part it's solid and believable with some good character development. No CG is used, the director choose to use prosthetics instead, the gore effects look good and gruesome, the Werewolf itself is very ugly and nasty, but the prosthetic model doesn't look all that realistic in a close up view, which will be down to the small budget this movie had.

Overall I enjoyed Ginger Snaps, definitely one of the best Werewolf movies I have seen in recent years.
