Worst Scary Movies

What are some of the worst horror movies ever made? Movies that disappointed and movies that were so bad that they were funny.

I have been searching around the internet for some of the worst horror movies ever made. I want to know what movies people consider to be the worst horror movies every made, and display them on this page. I will also include my own personal favorite terribly bad unintentionally funny scary movies.

Worst Scary Movies

Troll 2 1990

An entire town is inhabited by Trolls posing as humans, when a family visit the town the Trolls try and eat them. Trolls 2 is probably the worst, so bad it's funny, cheesiest horror movie ever made. Trolls 2 is so bad and memorable that it even has its own loyal fan base. It has some of the worst acting, dialog and special effects ever experienced in a movie, a documentary was even inspired by it, named "Best Worst Movie Ever".

The Mangler 1995

The story is basically about a demon that possesses an laundry folding machine which eats people. It may sound silly but it's based on a story written by Stephen King and it also stars Robert Englund and it also includes plenty of gore, however that's where the good points end. The Mangler completely ignores logic to a point which is ridiculous, combine that with bad acting and dialog which makes The Mangler very difficult to watch. It made so little sense that it actually gave me a headache.

Night of the Lepus 1972

Giant killer Rabbits anyone! it doesn't really sound very scary does it? you're right it's not very scary at all, and it's a bit ridiculous to be honest. This one falls into the category of it's so bad it's actually funny, which kind of makes it entertaining to watch, just don't expect a quality horror movie.

The Howling III: The Marsupials 1987

We have bad acting, terrible special effects and a human falling in love with a marsupial, I don't really need to say anymore than that. On a plus it's a very creative movie with some very original but weird ideas, it might give you a few unintentional laughs.

30 Days of Night: Dark Days

This is definitely not the worst horror I have seen but it's still pretty bad. It doesn't start off too terrible, however we then get subjected to what seems like hours of scenes where nothing at all happens. Boring is a good word to describe this movie, If you're having trouble sleeping then just put this on for awhile and you'll soon lose consciousness.

Slugs 1988

Due to human pollution, Slugs have mutated into killer Slugs which excrete toxin and they have also developed sharp teeth, that's pretty much as complex as the story gets. We have had killer Rabbits, and now it's time for the Slugs to take over, it seems just about anything can be turned into a horror movie.

Jack Frost 1997

A serial killer is on his way to be executed but there is a crash and he is badly mutated, he then returns as a snowman and seeks revenge on the sheriff that captured him. There are actually a few good reviews of this floating around, but for me the bad acting, cheap special effects and cheesy dialog makes this almost unbearable to watch.

World War Z Review

World War Z Review, Gerry Lane must prevent the human race from being decimated by the Zombie infestation.

Release date 21st June 2013

Director Marc Forster

Writers Matthew Michael Carnahan - Max Brooks

Cast

Brad Pitt - Gerry Lane
Eric West - Jason
Mireille Enos - Karen Lane

Plan B Entertainment - Running time 116 minutes

Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt) is a government employee that is racing againest time to stop a Zombie pandemic which is a serious threat to the survival of the human race.

World War Z is based on a novel by Max Brooks, I haven't read the novel myself so I am uncertain of how well the movie follows the book. This is definitely a big budget summer flick from Paramount Pictures which is estimated to of cost around $200 million to make.

There have been many reports of problems during the production of World War Z, like problems with over running costs and production problems. There are reports that a whole new ending to the movie had to be written as the current ending just didn't make any sense, this lead to whole new scenes having to be created so the whole thing would tie in together.

Visually World War Z is suburb, the acting is solid, Brad Pitt does a nice job of portraying a father struggling to keep his family alive. There are some gaping big plot holes in this movie which can ruin the enjoyment if you focus on them too much.

While I did enjoy watching World War Z, I didn't find it partially scary or atmospheric which was a bit of a disappointment if the truth be told. World War Z is certainly worth a watch, however it does have it flaws and it's unlikely to blow you away in terms of a cinematic experience, apart from maybe visually.

Van Helsing Review

Van Helsing Review (2004) modern day Werewolf and Vampire movie, Van helsing is on a mission to stop Dracula.

Shuler Hensley, Frankenstein's monster

Will Kemp, Velkan Valerious

Universal Pictures, Running time 131 minutes.

Doctor Frankenstein discovers the key to life and creates the Frankenstein Monster, Count Dracula learns of this monster and wants to discover the secret, but he is to late, Frankenstein and his creation are destroyed in a fire. Dracula still continues with his ambition to discover the secret of life. Meanwhile Van helsing the legendary monster hunter is sent to hunt down Dracula, Van Helsing soon finds himself battling against Dracula's protectors including other vampires and a werewolf.

Any movie including Vampires, Werewolves, Frankenstein and Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde gains my immediate attention, and with actors such as Hugh Jackman and Kate Beckinsale it gains my attention even more. With a strong cast Van Helsing has some decent charismatic acting, their performances may not be their best however it's certainly good enough and they do add value to the movie.

Another strong area of this movie is the special effects, they were amazing in 2004 and they are still impressive years later. The cinematography is great, everything looks beautiful, the supernatural creatures also look fantastic. Van Helsing has the best looking Vampires and Werewolves of any movie. Dracula looks fantastic when he transforms into the giant bat like creature, the way all the monsters are portrayed is great.

There clearly has been much effect put into the visual aspects of the movie, however other areas have suffered. The story is good but it's not executed that well, the story didn't really captivate me and the pacing is a little off. At just over 2 hours long it does become some what tedious and it should of been cut down to about 90 - 100 minutes.

Overall fun and great looking movie, it's a shame they didn't spend a little more effort on the story and pacing.

The Uninvited Review

The Uninvited Review, Anna returns home to live with her father, however she now has a new creepy step mother.

Directors Charles Guard

Writer Craig Rosenberg

Cast

Emily Browning, Anna
Arielle Kebbel, Alex
David Strathairn, Steven
Maya Massar, Mom
Kevin McNulty, Sheriff Emery
Elizabeth Banks, Rachel
Jesse Moss, Matt

DreamWorks SKG - Running time 87 minutes

Anna Rydell gets to return home after spending time in a hospital for the mentally ill. All seems good now she is reunited with her sister, however her new step mom is a bit on the creepy side and she seems to have an agenda. Anna's situation is made worse by the fact that some kind of entity is inhabiting the house, causing Anna to witness strange and disturbing things which is jeopardizing her recovery.

I watched the trailer for The Uninvited shortly after its release and I found the trailer a little underwhelming which is why it took me so long to watch this. However after seeing this in a few recent top horror lists I decided it was time to give it a watch.

Everything starts off well enough, the first half of the movie is nothing special, however I found myself being drawn into the story more as it went on. It has good pacing, good characters and solid acting and dialog throughout, these helped to keep my attention and to be immersed in the story.

As the movie progresses things become more interesting and the pace increases and the tension begins to build. The ghostly events and the creepy step mother helped to keep things interesting. It's nothing particularly special or original, however it's all well done. The best thing about this is the twist at the end, a very common experience in modern horror movies but I felt it was set up very well and I was completely taken by surprise.

Overall I found this to be entertaining, engrossing, a little scary and the end twist was well done and surprising, definitely worth a watch.

Underworld Awakening Review

Underworld Awakening Review, the forth in the underworld series, this takes place in a different world, a world where humans are the main enemy.

Director Bjorn Stein

Writer Len Wiseman

Cast

Kate Beckinsale - Selene
Michael Ealy - Detective Sebastian
India Eisley - Eve
Theo James - David, Selene's ally.
Charles Dance - Thomas
Sandrine Holt - Lida
Stephen Rea - Dr. Jacob Lane
Kris Holden-Ried - Quint Lane

Screen Gems, Running time 88 minutes.

Sometime shortly after Underworld Evolution the human race has become aware of Vampire and Lycans, seeing them as a threat to the future of mankind the humans have been trying to exterminate them with some degree of success. The Lycans are thought to be extinct and the vampires not far behind.

I am a fan of the first three movies, I think they're solid and entertaining movies that include two of my favorite supernatural creatures Vampires and Werewolves. To be honest I wasn't expecting much from this film, thinking it's just a way for the production company to make more money from this popular franchise, which is a good idea, making movies is a business after all.

When I heard about the story line I was even less impressed, it didn't appeal to me and I didn't expect much from this. However being a fan of the underworld franchise and vampire and werewolves it obviously still interested me.

I was pleasantly surprised with this film, it was much better than I was expecting. It provides good quality action, more of the same plus some new things that we haven't seen before, including a giant werewolf.

I do feel this is my least favorite in the underworld series, however not by as much as I was expecting. Everything about this movie is solid enough, acting and effects are good, overall underworld awakening exceeded my expectations and provided me with some exciting and memorable scenes.

If you enjoyed the previous underworld movies you should enjoy this. Overall a good solid installment into the series.

The Women In Black Review

The women in black review. A traveling man discovers that a ghost is terrifying a small village.

Director James Watkins

Writer Susan Hill

Cast

Daniel Radcliffe, Arthur Kipps
Misha Handley, Joseph Kipps
Jessica Raine, Nanny
Roger Allam, Mr. Bentley
Ciaran Hinds, Daily
Shaun Dooley, Fisher
Mary Stockley, Mrs. Fisher
Alexia Osborne, Victoria Hardy
Indira Ainger, Little Girl on Train
Andy Robb, Doctor
Lucy May Barker, Nursemaid

Alliance Films, Hammer Film Productions - Running time 95 minutes.

Arthur is a young lawyer who is sent to investigate the legal documents of a house, who's owner Mrs Drablow recently died. During his research he discovered a dark truth about how a past resident and her son died. One night while conducting his work alone in the house, Arthur soon comes to the realization that the house is haunted.

Right from the beginning I enjoyed the feel of this movie, it's very atmospheric and suspenseful and I was immersed from the start. The small village looks good and it provides a good feel of isolation which all helps with the tension building.

Daniel Radcliffe provides a nice believable performance, at times it was hard to look past the Harry Potter character for which we know and love Daniel Radcliffe. It was always going to be difficult for Daniel to take on a new character because of Harry Potter, but despite this disadvantage he does a great job as Arthur Kipps. Daily (Ciaran Hinds) is also one of my favorite characters providing a good performance.

I found The Women in Black a scary experience, providing some well timed shock tactics and uniquely creepy moments, this makes a nice change from all the first person perspective horror films we have had in recent years. The Women in black gives us something new despite it being just a basic haunted house movie at the heart.

Overall I found it an enjoyable scary experience. There are many mixed reviews floating about, however if you enjoyed films such as Paranormal Activity and Insidious I think you'll enjoy this.
